As of right now, I won't be adding any new friends to my LJ. I have now moved over to Dreamwidth, and while I'll be crossposting my entries to here and answering comments to entries here, I'd prefer to just keep my flist the size it is and not add to it.

Here is where I'm compiling a list of old movies I've seen for my own benefit. The list starts with silent films and moves into the Golden Age of Hollywood, with a cutoff date of 1965. This list excludes anything that isn't comedy, romance, or musical, as well as any old Disney films, either animated or live action. For Instance, The Sound of Music is on this list, but not Mary Poppins.

list under cutCollapse )

List will be continually updated as I remember/watch more.

So hey. How's it going? Remember when I used to make entries? I used to gush about tv shows and movies. I used to make picspams. I used to be in fandoms.

Yeeeeeah. It seems the way I express myself through fandom has changed over the last year or two and I don't participate the way I once did. Anyone who has known me for years through LJ and now DWth knows that my personal life isn't something I discuss in depth anymore which left me with only fandom pursuits. But now I express myself through RPing from certain fandoms and dishing with RP friends on Plurk.

Tumblr is horrible for conversation because so many Asks are lost in the ether. And I don't make long-winded posts dissecting and discussing fandom like I used to. I actually like it that way. There's way too much negativity on Tumblr with the way they dissect media that aren't a paragon of righteous political correctness. And with any media that is more progressive in its characters, plots, and views you find people treating it like the Second Coming of Christ and keysmashing incoherently over it in such quantities that I have to unfollow or use Tumblr Savior on their tags just to get through my dashboard.

I don't think I'm any better than people who chose to express themselves that way, I just don't care to read it anymore. Like I said, the way I express myself has changed, but I've also changed in how I prefer to absorb fandom.

I do have a glimmer of creativity left outside of RP, however. I recently started designing some stuff and opened a shop at Society6.

It's just cute and geeky stuff now, but I'll constantly be adding more until I run out of ideas. I definitely want to add more fandom geekery so if you have any suggestions, let me know. (I'll also admit some of the prices are a little crazy. I only set the price for what I want the prints to sell for, and I only get like a third in profit, and the prices on all the rest adjust to what I set up for the prints.) So far I've sold one thing, but I hope that changes. What with stupid student loans companies breathing down my neck.

Since I've gotten my Kindle for Christmas I've been reading a lot more than I used to, so if you have any recommendations, I'm all ears. I like sci fi/fantasy (though I'll probably never get into ASoIaF), historical (especially British), trivia, and some YA. My GoodReads is here if you want to see what I've read so far. Speaking of books, I won Gail Carriger's first book in The Finishing School series around Christmas, and I recently won her second book in the series too! It doesn't come out until November and here I've already read it. I also got a surprise when I opened the cover and saw she had signed it!

Beyond that there's not much else to say. I recently read the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series and Warm Bodies, both of which were pretty good. I think I liked the Warm Bodies movie better though, but that could just be because I saw it before reading. Saw Star Trek Into Darkness and anyone who follows me on Tumblr knows my reaction to that scene in the shuttle between Carol and Kirk that brought back my old fandom spirit by making me lose my shit and want J.J. and the writers to step on a million legos. Still need to see Pacific Rim. I feel I could go either way with it, based on what I heard (again, fandom on Tumblr is a dangerous place, whether they love something or hate it). Come fall I'll probably drop New Girl and wait until several Once Upon a Time episodes air to catch up (if my bb Ruby isn't coming back then I don't feel the need to latch onto every episode when it airs). I'll of course be watching Doctor Who and Parks & Rec though I really want this to be the last season so it doesn't circle the drain like The Office did. I will most likely be watching Almost Human because Karl Urban's starring in it, but it's on Fox so let's be real, it'll probably get cancelled.

I think that's everything. Sorry I've been such a shit blogger. You can follow me on Tumblr if you want, because I do more stuff there.

Another year has come and gone and yes, it has become clear that I've gone back on my word and have abandoned LJ for Tumblr. I just think there's little for me in keeping a personal blog anymore, really. It's so much easier to just reblog pics and gifs and all that good stuff. I've always been more interested it talking about fandoms on the internet than talking about myself. I hardly ever check my Facebook anymore either, and I've removed all but my closest family and friends from my timeline. Hell, I didn't know my BFF's mom had died until three days after the fact, because she only told people in a FB status message and I rarely check the site! That made me feel like an ass, but the site just doesn't appeal to me. It worms its way into everything. Every website has a link to post this to Facebook, and every tv show wants you to go to Facebook or Twitter for updates or to vote in polls, and every new service says you can log in w/ Facebook instead of creating an account, but then you have to carefully monitor that everything you do on the service isn't immediately posted to Facebook!

Ugh, no thank you. I just want to reblog pretty pictures and talk about how great a tv episode/movie/song/ etc. is.

Moving on, I joined a secret santa thing this year, where I agreed to write a fic for someone, and my day to post it is tomorrow. I'm so nervous about it, because something weird has happened since I've started RPing. I... can't write fic anymore? I struggled so hard on this fic, you guys. Yet when I was done, it was HUGELY LONG. Like nearly 9,000 words long. And I'm squinting at this thing like, "...How?" Anyway, I hope they like it. I'm also nervous because a few others joined the secret santa thing, but NO ONE has posted yet! So either they all picked later dates than me, or they just didn't do it? IDK, it'd kind of suck for me to post a 9,000 word fic and get zilch in return, don't you think?

Anyway, since we all do it, here's my Christmas haul:

From aunt and grandma:
12 skeins of yarn
Austentatious Crochet (Jane Austen/Regency inspired crochet patterns)
a funky scarf with metal bobbles
a wall calendar
a set of 15 Sephora/OPI nail polishes
a pair of skinny jeans so I can tuck the bottoms in my boots
Wal-Mart gift card
$50

From mom (and I guess dad cuz it was his money though he had no input):
Kindle Fire HD + case
15 skeins of yarn
misc makeup & makeup tools
Books:
The Hobbit hardback pocket edition
The Parasol Protectorate volume 2, containing the last 2 books in the series
The Decline and Fall of the British Aristocracy

From my other grandma:
$100

From my other aunt:
She sent an email saying she sent me something in the mail, but I've been too lazy and forgetful to check the mailbox. I'll bet it's a gift card of some type. :3

AND! I won Gail Carriger's newest book that doesn't come out until February! It's an ARC of Etiquette & Espionage, the 1st in the Finishing School series. All I had to do was enter a artwork contest, and not enough people entered, so all of us won!

Oh hey, there were a few specials on today!

Doctor Who: 7.09: The SnowmenCollapse )

Downton Abbey: Christmas specialCollapse )
