Since I've felt out of the icon groove lately, I've spent the last few days working on some icons, testing out new techniques and whatnot. I'm actually pretty proud of some of the Doctor Who ones. A couple were happy accidents, to be honest. :)

Anyways, thought I'd pimp them out as they might be of some interest to those of you who don't have my icon LJ friended. There are:

Today I'm pimping out an awesome webcomic that I think my history buff friends will enjoy (well, depending upon what parts of history you find interesting, I suppose).

It's called Dovecote Crest, and it's about a young woman named Charlie who runs the historical society in Arkansas and works as a Civil War reenactor. She dreams of working for a big time museum, but one of the reenactors, Jeremy (a HUGE Civil War buff who reminds me of way too many of the male history majors I had classes with), wants her to stay, as he's in ~love~ with her.

Start from the archives; it won't take you long to read the whole thing, I promise. :) It's a linear storyline, and the second part of the story just started recently.

Recently, my grandpa told my dad about landing at Normandy. Initially we thought he turned up on the 2nd or 3rd day, but apparently he was in the artillery unit that came in right behind the infantry. Only thing was, the infantry they were following got off course and landed a mile away from the beach they were supposed to be at, so the artillery had to follow them b/c the infantry were clearing a path for them.

So yeah, it's the 65th anniversary of the Allies whooping Nazi ass in the largest amphibious invasion of all time.
